CAD Productivity

& QA Techniques

For CAD Operators and Checkers

Including Latest Tools and Methodologies

A VERY PRACTICAL PROGRAM

A 2 week Intensive Workshop

This program provides Quality Assurance Productivity Improvement in CAD Work, Standardization, Accuracy-First-Time… Tools and Procedures For Operators, Checkers, Engineers, and Supervisors.

CAD usage is taught everywhere and Draftsmen and Engineers have been making Good Drawings - So where is the problem? CAD drafting errors need a lot of time to detect, correct or redo- many of these errors are avoidable. Sooner or later all organizations realize it is much more advantageous to spend time in setting up procedures and checklists for CAD functions rather than trying to correct errors later. Tools and Methodologies are available to enable errors to be identified reliably.

Productivity, accuracy, standardization strategic considerations are not taught anywhere else... except in this program!

Why You Should Attend?

CAD packages are Open System it can easily be turned into an extremely productive Design Drafting System. Some of these Productivity and Accuracy Enhancements can be implemented using little effort provided one has the specialized implementation knowledge. Others require more understanding of the CAD Software Environment. Still others can be implemented using special (often inexpensive) third party software. This program provides the participants all the above technology and more.

This program introduces you to the different…

  • Customizations

  • CAD Technologies

  • Techniques

  • Procedures

  • Standardization

  • Tools to help you become highly equipped CAD experts

This program answers the question: "How to approach a CAD Assignment to Achieve Standardization, Accuracy and Maximize Productivity?"

Most CAD users are too busy drawing and designing to become highly qualified experts on how to get necessary standardization, accuracy and maximum productivity from their CAD systems for their organizations. This program brings together the different technologies, techniques, procedures and tools to help you become highly equipped CAD experts.

We all realize for CAD to work in a design office there must be an effort to keep up with the latest available capabilities, procedures and tools. Information should be systematically organized so it can be reused and exchanged. All past work and new information should be readily available to the project teams.

Also, Application programs have improved dramatically in the past few years and can save a great deal of drafting time.

Schedules are rarely blown because the work was done too slowly. What usually happens is that something goes wrong and you have to do it over again, often late in the project. At other times we find the problem lies not in the accuracy of the individual drawings but in the non-standardization of the preparation process which creates future application problems.

Many clients will be using the data provided to them by Engineers, Contractors and Suppliers in their Facilities Manager, GIS… To be useful in this way, the CAD work must be done to certain professional standards that will be explained in this program.

Your productivity will derive not so much from the ability to draw a door automatically, as it will from the automation that places it on the correct layer, with the appropriate attributes, absolutely accurately everytime.

This program helps you plan to avoid these and other quality, standardization and productivity problems on your CAD Projects. This program applies to all CAD works and is especially applicable where the CAD output is going to be reused many times in the future or will ultimately form part of some Engineering- Information or Facilities-Management System.

  • Making Engineering Drawing using CAD Systems. The difference in approach from manual drafting systems. 2-D Drafting, 3-D Modeling, Auto Extraction of 2-D Drawings from 3-D Models. Capabilities of competing CAD Systems.

  • Planning, Implementing and Maintaining Drawing Standards in your Organization.

  • Creating Tools for Checking Accuracy and Integrity of Drawings Created.

  • Designing Prototype Drawings and Planning Forms.

  • Total Quality Management (ISO 9000) applied to AutoCAD Designing Drafting.

  • Engineering Document Management System: Technology, Specifying Requirements and Implementation Issues.

  • Converting Paper Drawings to AutoCAD Drawings.

  • Increased Operator Productivity and Accuracy through Designing, Making and Using Own: Automatic Executed Files, Linetypes, Hatch Patterns, Fonts, Shapes, Command Abbreviations, Defining New Commands, Execution of Predefined Series of Commands using single keystrokes, Creating Symbol Libraries of parts accessed through own Icon Menus and Dialog Boxes.

  • Designing Menus, Status Line, Help and Multiple Configuration Files.

  • AutoLISP Capabilities and Using AutoLISP Programs.

  • Extracting and Manipulating Bill of Materials and other data from AutoCAD. Using Blocks, WBlocks, XRef, DXF, ASE and ADE.

  • Using ADE (AutoCAD Data Extension): Planning your work so as to work on large drawings without slowing down the system, Opening more than one drawing file at a time and working on them as if a single file was open (all get updated automatically), Working on Networks sharing Drawings and Resources, and, Putting Intelligence into Drawings (GIS).

  • Preparing Specifications and Quality Checking Systems for CAD Works Contracted-Out, And, for CAD drawings provided by equipment suppliers.
