What is Business Information Systems Technology Planning (BITP)?

BITP is a process in which the organization defines and implements its Business Information System Technology Usage for a future 5 year period. Euro Training has developed a formal Business Information Technology Planning Methodology (Euro-BITP) to carry out this process from Vision to Implementation. It is an Analysis Planning Methodology designed to develop short and long term Information Business System Plans which Support the Business Strategies. This methodology has been successfully applied by many organizations worldwide and is an absolute prerequisite for most organizations with large Information Utilization to support Decision Making.

What is the difference in the New Approach to Information Technology Planning?

  • The Development Methodology for shared-data systems, must as its first step, have a much broader view of the business needs and the environment in which it operates, than was previously required.

  • Requirements of routine transaction processing tend to be stable and relatively easy to identify; Information Requirements for Management and Decision Making activities are more Changeable and Difficult to Define.

  • The Complexity of Integrated Information Systems necessitates the identification of Information Requirements, and the need for an Overall Plan to Guide its Initial Development and subsequent Maintenance. An understanding of the needs can be acquired by a distinct separation of Analysis (“What is to be done?”) from Design (“How it is to be done?”). This is done in BITP.

Need For This Program

  • Need to Have Proactive Information to Support Decisions Throughout Organization

  • Need to Increase Organization’s Productivity

  • Need to Project Organization’s Image Service Quality

  • Computers have become an essential part of organizational information processing because of the power of the technology and the increasing volume of the data to be processed.

  • The current challenge of information processing is to use the capabilities of computers to support knowledge work, including managerial activities and decision making.

  • The wide variety of computer resources to perform transaction processing, to provide the formal Information and Reporting System, and to accomplish Managerial Decision Support are broadly classified as Management Information Systems (MIS). It must be noted that MIS is a broad concept rather than a single system. The fact that it is an integrated system does not mean it is a single, monolithic structure; rather it is a federation of subsystems, developed and implemented as needed but conforming to the overall plan, standards, and procedures for the MIS. In recent times no system concept has been talked about so enthusiastically by Computer Professionals and Management Men alike and yet been so frustrating in its realization than that of Management Information Systems.

  • Traditionally, the data processing industry has developed applications by targeting High Volume Operational Systems, with the Primary Concern being Efficient Machine Utilization. A very specific and rigid development methodology has been devised which is very successful in implementing these “bottom-up, stand-alone” systems.

  • Now, with the emergence of sophisticated data processing technology, many organizations have shifted their emphasis from Stand-alone operational systems to Integrated Shared-Data Systems. In this environment, it is extremely important that the application be viewed in the context of the whole enterprise. As a result, the development methodology used to create stand-alone applications is not appropriate, and in many cases, is counterproductive.
